Chapter Twenty-Seven: Congresswoman Dina Titus Talks About the Gaming Group and the GRIT Act
As the representative for Nevada’s first Congressional District and co-leader of the Congressional Gaming Group, she is a significant industry supporter at the national level.

Addressing the Excise Tax Issue
Congresswoman Titus is also leading the effort to overturn the 0.25% federal excise tax on sports betting transactions.

This money is deposited into the general fund, not used to combat illegal gambling. She asks, why not reduce the tax so that legal businesses can better compete with offshore operators by offering more appealing products?

GRIT is not the Answer
However, the representative opposes the Gambling Recovery, Investment, and Treatment Act (GRIT Act), which would redirect the tax to fund problem gambling treatment.

She told the Global Politics Series that the bill’s sponsors did not consult with the Gaming Group and disregarded state legislation, which almost always requires funding for problem gambling.
