The Macau Public Prosecutor’s Office provided additional information regarding the arrests made at the end of the previous month for offenses related to illegal online gambling. Among those detained were Chan, the chairman and chief executive officer of the operator Macau Legend, and those managing the VIP room operator, Dejin Group.
Chan resigned from his position at Macau Legend following his arrest.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office declared that after law enforcement apprehended eleven individuals, including the former Suncity Chairman Zhou焯华, they were accused of utilizing Macau VIP rooms to lure participants for offshore gambling platforms in the Philippines. The police conducted a thorough investigation of the case.
During this investigation, four more individuals were apprehended and transferred to the prosecutors, including two individuals with the surname Chan.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office proclaimed that one of these individuals, one of the two apprehended on January 28, was suspected of not only organizing illegal gambling but also money laundering and “participating in offenses related to leading or directing a criminal organization.”
The most severe accusation carries a 15-year jail term.
This applies to Chen Yonglin, taking into account the time of his apprehension.
The second individual taken into custody on January 28th was accused of “defiance.”
Two individuals, including another named Chen, were apprehended on January 29th and charged with offenses related to concealing other crimes.
The legal representative stated that the first person was detained to prevent his departure from Macau, while the remaining three face “additional restrictive measures.”
