Mississippi Sports Betting Sees Increase in August

Mississippi bettors ended a four-month period of decreases in August, spending $21.2 million on sports wagering.

The state’s sports betting total in August was up 15.9% from $18.3 million in July, but down 0.9% from $21.4 million in August 2021.

Income also rose from the previous month, with $2.7 million in August, up 8.0% from $2.5 million in July and 42.1% higher than $1.9 million in August 2021.

Casinos along the coast were once again the most favored spot for Mississippi consumers, drawing in $14.2 million in wagers and generating $1.7 million in total income for the month.

Central casinos saw $4.2 million in bets and $618,375 in revenue, while northern casinos handled $2.2 million in wagers and generated $1.7 million in revenue.

Baseball was the most popular sport among consumers that month, with players betting $8.5 million at coastal casinos, $1.4 million at central casinos, and $1.3 million at northern casinos.

The Mississippi Gaming Commission also noted that the hold for the month was 12.7%, down 17.2% from August 2021.
