The Wyoming State Assembly narrowly turned down a proposal that would have authorized online and mobile wagering on sporting events within the state.
The proposal, presented last month as House Bill 0225, was withdrawn from legislative review after it was rejected in the Assembly by a margin of 32 to 27.
HB 0225, which was backed by Representative Tom Walters and Senator Ogden Driskill, concentrated on legalizing online and mobile sports betting with the aim of establishing a regulated market by the start of 2021.
The vote also suggests that Wyoming is unlikely to legalize sports betting this year, as the state’s current legislative session concludes on March 6.
